Mark Cattaneo nasce nel 1975 nella provincia padovana, tra tradizioni artigianali e piccoli borghi medievali.
Un approccio esperienziale fondato sulla sperimentazione diretta di tecniche e materiali, inglobandone i diversi alla propria irrinunciabile visione, risulterà essere una costante dominante in tutto il suo percorso di ricerca.
Dal 2010 la produzione dell’artista si stanzia principalmente tra fotografia, scultura e pittura materica attraverso metalli, resine, terracotta e legno, focalizzata in un processo di astrazione del soggetto dal caos del reale, ricollocato ora in una dimensione di isolamento in cui le peculiari qualità esteriori rivelano le verità interiori della condizione terrena.
I materiali e le tecniche, quali acidi, acrilici, ossidi e pigmenti, ingobbi, multimateriali, vuoti, diventano linguaggi diversi per parlare delle componenti estetiche e strutturali, relazionali ed emozionali, consapevoli e nei tanti gradi di coscienza, che stanno alla base delle vicende umane, intrise di domande, errori e nuove esperienze, di vita che scorre.
Nel 2017 il ciclo di abbandono di opere, inizia con la Serie 7, realizzate in ceramica raku con l’integrazione di legno, ferro e diversi filamenti, disseminandole tra gli spazi preposti all’arte nel contesto della Biennale di Venezia, oltre che sparsi lungo le calli della stessa città, liberandole a un ignoto destino.
In questi anni prende il via l’indagine ancora in corso sulla memoria esperienziale della materia attraverso il deterioramento del metallo, l’applicazione di objets touvés o il loro inglobamento, l’aggiunta di acrilici e terre e lo scorrere del tempo, in stratificazioni successive con tempi che raggiungono anche i 18 mesi in situazioni più materiche, unitamente alle condizioni atmosferiche del luogo di evoluzione.

Mark Cattaneo was born in 1975, in the Padua province, in the middle of craft traditions and small medieval villages.
An experiential approach based on the direct experimentation of techniques and materials, incorporating them to his own irreplaceable vision, will be a dominant constant throughout his research path.
Since 2010, the artist’s production has mainly focused on photography, sculpture and material painting through metals, resins, terracotta and wood, concentrated on a process of abstraction of the subject from the chaos of reality, now reset in a dimension of isolation in which the peculiar external qualities reveal the inner truths of the earthly condition.
The materials and techniques, such as acids, acrylics, oxides and pigments, engobes, multimaterials, emptinesses, become different languages to talk about the aesthetic and structural, relational and emotional components, in the numerous degrees of consciousness, which are at the basis of human events, full of questions, mistakes and new experiences and of life running.
In 2017 the cycle of abandonment of works begins with the Series 7, made of raku ceramics with the integration of wood, iron and different filaments, scattering them among the spaces dedicated to art in the context of the Venice Biennale, as well as scattered along the streets of the same city, freeing them to an unknown fate.
During these years the ongoing research on the experiential memory of matter through the deterioration of metal, the application of objets trouvés(founded objects) or their incorporation, the addition of acrylics and soils and time passing by, in successive stratifications with lengths of up to 18 months into more material situations, together with the weather conditions of the place of evolution.
